Tactical CQC Training

The Program for Military

The Tactical CQC Training standard instruction program for the military consists of five training fields. Each of them is taught in a basic and a advanced module. The basic module procures and trains the essential and basic skills. The advanced module deals with further and more complex scenarios as well as more specific applications of the respective tactics and techniques.

The following courses are offered:

Military Empty Hand Fighting Tactics

Tactics and techniques of unarmed close combat taught under military aspects.

General basic skills of close combat, self-defense in unarmed conflicts, de-escalation and conflict management, techniques that ensure risk-free situation control and arrest against resistance.

Military Knife Fighting Tactics

Tactical application of knives in close combat under military aspects.

Application of knives in order to accomplish an assignment and for effective self-defense in situations when a firearm cannot be used or be used any more. Fighters who are professionals in handling knives and human anatomy can use a knife with a high degree of efficiency.

Military Knife Defense Tactics

Tactics and techniques for a successful unarmed defense against knife attacks.

Premeditated knife attacks are often malicious and take the attacked person by surprise. Very often such a person is unprepared and concveis the danger too late. This module teaches the successful defense to police officers against knife attacks, when firearm cannot be used or used any more.

Military Impact and Edged Weapon Tactics

Tactical application of impact and edged weapons and improvised weapons (machete, spade, bayonet, crowbar, branch etc.).

In Africa, South-East Asia, Central and South America, the machete is a widely-used tool in daily life. It is only natural that this tool is often used as a weapon in a conflict. This module teaches the use of such a weapon in order to asses the potential and the danger issuing form a person bearing it. Furthermore, soldiers learn to use objects in their hands, be they blunt or sharp-edged, as weapons for self-defense.

Military Firearm CQC Tactics

Tactical application of firearms as impact weapons at  short distance and unarmed defense against attacks with a firearm.

The basic module teaches the effective application of assault rifles in close combat. The supplementary module deals with the application of and defense against handguns in close combat. Especially if there is no clear line of fire or uninvolved civilians could be endangered the techniques acquired will help to control the situation quickly and unmistakably, if possible without shooting.

Each module consists of a minimum of four hours training. They can be booked either as a sequence of weekends or as a one-week seminar. We also offer seminars for muliplicators. In addition to the regular modules, a further module for multiplicators is an instructor course. For more information, see “instructor course”.

Seminars Focusing on Specific Topics or Target Groups

Beside our standard training modules, we offer customized instruction adapted to specific tasks and operational situations. Military police with their double function as military and police force may be interested in topics like the handling of the police tonfa, techniques of check and arrest, application and handling of tactical flashlights etc. Other units may favour other topics like teambuilding fitness, water fights or response to hostage-taking.

If you can think of an area, in which you wish to improve the close combat skills of your team, ask us for an offer without obligation.

A Comment Concerning the Purpose of our Program within a Modern Military Context

Modern military staff training in tactical leadership largely eliminates direct man-to-man contact. Yet, multiple operational situations occur in which a soldier is eyeball to eyeball with another individual, e.g. when patrolling an open market square, during the inauguration of a school or a hospital, when securing a building, in a road-block, when scouring a building for a target person. If such a tight situation escalates into a physical or armed assault, competent knowledge of the basics of close combat can help to save the life and health of the soldier and to keep calm and track of the situation in order to remain in control of it. Furthermore, an urban setting does not always offer a clear line of fire so that “other means” are more successful in avoiding civilian casualties.

Quarrels whether aimed and dangerous attacks or “harmless” brawls originating in misunderstandings or overreaction of a citizen due to cultural conventions must be suppressed immediately. The use of firearms would be disproportionate and, with regard to the sensitivities of public opinion, hardly justifiable. Well-established conflict management techniques can help to keep control of citizens and of the situation at a low level of physical interference.

Furthermore, the ability to stand one’s ground in direct physical confrontation and to protect one’s life and health builds confidence. Confident behaviour of a soldier can have a deescalating effect in itself.

Organisation of Seminars

Some of our military seminars are open to all uniformed staff, e.g. of the Armed Forces Universities in Hamburg or Munich in Germany. Other seminars organized by individual military bases are strictly invitational.

Soldiers who wish to take part in our training on their own initiative are invited to join one of our open seminars. Another option would be to organize a training unit at their military base either as a module within the official training program or privately as an initiative of motivated comrades. If you are interested, feel free to contact us. Further information is to be found under “Seminars”.
